Why We Need Citizen Action Quickly!
Yesterday we reported Pat Buchanan's answer to a callers concerns about computerized vote fraud. In the past we've reported on the clear stand taken by Howard Phillips and the Constitution Party on this issue.
Today we renew our call for as many as possible reading this e-wire to get involved in asking one's own board of elections what provisions there are to allow citizens in your precinct from all factions to publicly check the ballots on election day before they leave the precinct - in order to make sure the computers or machines are programmed correctly. When an official at the Board of Elections tells you there is no such provision, ask them if they can put the policy in writing, and note the officials name.
Even if they won't put the policy in writing, write us at Citizens for a Fair Vote Count, with a petition in your own words that says something like this:
Dear Citizens For a Fair Vote Count: Please pass this on to (one or more of the Presidential Candidates) and ask them to bring this issue up publicly as part of their stump speech. I live in XYZ County, in the state of XYZ. I was told by (So and So) at our county Board of Elections, that we as citizens are forbidden to check our ballots on our election day. What's going on? Is this still America? I thought only dictatorships forbid citizens to participate in the vote count. We need to restore verifiable elections with citizen checks and balances, as in the days of the Founding Fathers. Please become our voice on this issue. Please ask in your stump speech: What is going on in America when citizens can't check their own ballots to make sure the computers are programmed properly? Thank you. (Your Name.)

As I say, use your own words as much as possible. Then we will pass these letters onto all the Presidential Candidates. Or, you can write the Presidential Candidate, and send us a copy. Either e-mail us a letter in reply, OR mail a hard copy to Citizens for a Fair Vote Count, PO Box 11339, Cincinnati, Ohio 45211.
The Buchanan comments on C-Span show that we might be able to expect a lot from Howard Phillips, Charles Collins (both of whom only need more publicity to make this issue known), Pat Buchanan, Harry Browne, Ralph Nader (maybe), and John Hagelin - if we citizens can make this an issue which they can "pick up on."
As soon as possible, we desperately need citizens in 3000 counties to petition Presidential Candidates to demand citizen hand counts at the neighborhood precinct.
This is work. But we need this concerted citizen effort to push this all important issue of an honest vote count onto the National Stage in the 2000 Presidential Election.
