Last night, on August 12^th, 2000 – the Reform Party nominee delivered his speech to the nation.

Preceding the historic address, Buchanan marched into the convention behind the stirring sounds of bagpipes. The drama of the moment filled the hall. The “peasants with pitchforks” were assembled. Their able spokesman and standard bearer entered. A major Party had been captured by the Buchanan Brigades, and the war for America was moving into high gear.

While ABC, CBS, NBC, and MSNBC boycotted, --- CNN and FOX, to their credit, -- under the effective and persistent prodding of Bay Buchanan -- did beam the Buchanan acceptance speech to the nation. CNN, of course, was the network Buchanan had broadcast on as a Crossfire host from the early 1980’s to 1999. And Fox under the leadership of Roger Ailes, while still fatally flawed at this hour for reasons often cited in this e-wire, is more “fair and balanced” than the other 4 Big TV networks.

Buchanan spent a key portion of his talk talking about how his family had been so blessed, and how, following his departed older brother, he felt the need to give something back. (His older brother’s death is described in “Right from the Beginning” in the chapter “A death in the family”)

In a list of other things which Pat said needed to be done by the Reform Party and its allies across America, he stated this near the end of his acceptance speech: “We need to drive the modern day Money Changers from the Temple.”

You can read the entire acceptance speech on Buchanan.org or on Buchananreform.org – but this line jumped out at many of us, and no doubt jumped out at the modern day Money Changers themselves.

Speaking of the modern day Money Changers, all –and I mean ALL – will be interested in our upcoming Network America e-wire, “We will not accept another “lone nut” assassin.”

Almost no one in the Long Beach convention hall knew that Pat was, during convention week, suffering from increasing side pains. It would turn out that he would need a gall bladder operation shortly after the convention, and would be laid up until after Labor Day weekend.
